October 6, 2002 - The final round of the 2002 Wisconsin Off-Road Series (WORS) painted a familiar picture - a showdown between Tristan Schouten (PCW) and Brian Schanning (PCW). Update From Butch...see below
HARDTAILS WANTED!
The series is still working very hard toward gaining more exposure and interest for the coming season. As a club we need to involve ourselves more with our surrounding riders. An interesting topic was brought to my attention recently. Do I need to "go big" to be a downhiller? The answer is simple...NO! All you have to want to do is ride down the mountain. Speed, style & skill level aren't the most important thing. Like the phrase says, it's all about the ride.
So be sure to invite all the local freeriders, part-time blasters & even the local XC hammerhead out to camp, ride, race. It's our sport and it's open to anyone just like skiing or snowboarding. Style doesn't count in this sport. Tell someone about the hardtail class. This year, you'll have your own separate points race.
FEEDBACK
What would you want the club to do this season? Give us some ideas as to how MADHRA can make riding for you better. info@madhra.com
SPONSORS NEEDED
Anyone with interest in sponsoring the series may contact me for a copy of our media kit. Just send the contact info to this address & I'll take care of the rest. info@madhra.com
TRAILBUILDING at WOLF
This year anyone who wants to help build trails for the coming year is welcome to join us on weekends at the Wolf. We will be setting up all types of courses, XC, freeride and DH. Wolf is very much open to the idea of catering to the mountain bike culture if we show our support.
WHO WE ARE
MADHRA has been conceived to create and administer a Downhill and Dual
Slalom & MountainCross Racing series in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US,
as well as to grow the sports of Downhill and Dual Slalom MTB Racing. MADHRA
will also address issues of consistent timing, results, and NORBA points
reporting for the Southern gravityheads. To take part in the club and to get
in on the action, you want to be a member. Official first meeting of
SEDHRA (which soon became MADHRA) was held following the racing at the 2001Showdown at Sugar AMBC event on August 25th, 2001. At this point, our emaildatabase has grown to over 275 subscribers, with new inquiries daily. The
interest this Series has generated should be enough to make something good
happen! Sign up NOW! "

New for 2003 is the Maxxis Southeast Super Series with some new and old courses for all you gravity heads. The series is the result of ACS Race Promotions’ commitment to racing in the southeast and is sure to please many riders with its array of venues that will offer all three disciplines of mountain biking. The downhill and dual/4X events will decide the eventual NORBA regional champion, and Maxxis will award the top XC racers with great prize packages. The series will showcase the regions only three 5 minute plus downhill races and will highlight some of the best dual, dual slalom, and mountain cross courses in the nation. Starting the season on May 3-4 is Treadhead 2003, which boasts the first of the 5 minute DH runs and a dual course with nearly 300 yards of huge bermed turns and 20, 30 and 35 foot airs that will leave many wondering if they should have brought their passport. The fun doesn’t stop as the series hits the classic Dixie Dirt Festival in Asheville, the Newnan Hustle (only Georgia race), the inaugural Winrock race in Oak Ridge, the Fontana Dam Jam, new Beech Mountain courses, the Riverfront classic in Charlotte, and back to all new courses in Johnson City, TN. The eight race series was designed to bring a wide variety of downhill courses that include old school courses in Asheville, Fontana, and Charlotte, while upping the ante with the Johnson City courses, Winrock’s unbelievable 1800’ drop, and the altered Beech Mountain course. Electronic timing will be used at every race and qualifying, timing and results will be handled by ACS Race Promotions.
